BC v Notre Dame Football Weekend

The juniors and seniors headed to South Bend, IN to catch the BC v ND football game a few weekends ago. Although, the Eagles lost, it sounds like these upperclassmen had a great time!

"So we land in Chicago late Friday night to be picked up by a limo!!! And Mr. Alley to take us to Hannah’s beautiful house just outside of Chicago. Hannah’s house was gorgeous, and the Alley’s could not have been more hospitable, giving each of us a bed, a nice wake up call in the morning and bagels before we left their house early Saturday morning to catch the shuttle to go down to South Bend. We arrived in South Bend early Saturday morning and got to explore the beautiful campus and see touchdown Jesus as we made our way to the BC tailgate with all the RVs. Although it was rainy, freezing, and BC ended up losing, all of that didn’t seem to matter. The lacrosse team at Notre Dame was nice enough to take us in and make us feel at home in their off campus house. Sunday morning we woke up bright and early to do some more exploring before we headed back to explore Chicago. We got the chance to see ND’s beautiful chapel, the grotto and hang out and get breakfast in their student center. Also, we were able to sneak in an open gate to the stadium and walk on the grass- a cool experience. Never having been to Chicago before, it was awesome to get some deep dish pizza and hang out around Millennium Park for the day before catching out flight back late Sunday night. Overall the weekend was a lot of fun and I was so glad so many of us were able to make the trip out there. "

BROWN Scrimmage & Fall Season in Review

The 2009 fall season has come to an end, and the Eagles finished it up with a strong performance at Brown on Saturday - Halloween! After a slow start and getting used to Brown's high pressure defense, the team settled down and played with poise in the second half. The transition game looked especially good and our conditioning and overall speed are certainly starting to prove worthwhile. Saturday was a great opportunity to see what a real game would feel like, as this was our last dry-run before our first game on February 20th! We also played an additional 25 minutes and 3 6-minute situational periods at the end. It was an opportunity for everyone to play, for the team to exhibit all that has been a focal point this fall, and to work on key aspects of the game.

Overall, the fall season was a huge success. The coaching staff is thrilled with where the team is right now and is very confident about what the spring season has in store. Without a doubt the team will continue its hard-working ways, and there is little question about whether or not it will return to campus in January ready to go! The 26 women of the 2010 squad have proven they are ready and willing to step up to any challenge they face, and with that attitude coupled with the talent on the team, the spring season should be one to remember!

Thanks to all of you who have supported the team through this fall season, and to all the parents for keeping us well fed! With two months to go before spring practices begin, the team will be focused on getting healthy, getting in peak condition, and getting ready to perform! We hope many of you will be on the sidelines to cheer us on this spring.

Our spring schedule can be found under the "spring schedule link" on the right-hand side of the blog.

Here's to a great 2010!

UNH TOURNAMENT in REVIEW

Our third fall tournament is behind us, and we took another step in the right direction last weekend! Focusing on a couple key points offensively, defensively, and in the midfield, it all began to come together in our final two scrimmages of the day.

We opened the day with a 25 minute game against UMass - always a scrappy & tough team. We held our own and certainly were looking for new opportunities offensively. It was great to see, and the shots will start to fall! Another 25 minutes against UNH enabled us to work on a few more aspects. It wasn't as smooth a game as we all would have liked, but the response to the game and the subsequent play proved the team is ready and wiling to get better every time out.

The final two 25-minute games against UMass and UNH (both for a 2nd time) were much improved, particularly the final game with UNH where the defense came together, the offensive was finding one another, and the transition game was flowing. It is from here we look to improve in our final two weeks of practice.

Our 4th and final tournament is in two weeks at Brown. We will play Brown in a full game to start and then add one extra period and a couple extra situations. It should be a great way to end the fall season...all on HALLOWEEN!!!

Brown game begins at 9:00am - hope to see you all there!!

BC FALL TOURNAMENT - A SUCCESS!!!

We held our first-ever fall tournament on our beautiful stadium field on the Newton Campus this weekend.  For all of you alumnae out there, let us know if we are wrong in thinking this may have been our FIRST-EVER fall tournament on campus!!  It was a great day on Saturday with Yale and Vermont joining us for the play-day.

We came out ready to play in our first game against Yale, and proved that we have the speed, endurance, and talent to be quite a force!  It was a great start to the day, and we definitely took another step in the right direction.  The defense was stingy and our offense was moving the ball nicely.  It was an overall solid effort!

After an hour break, when Yale and Vermont played one another, we took to the field again against UVM.  A familiar foe and another game where we improved on the things that mattered most.  Running a number of different people in and out of the game to give everyone an opportunity and to see who is ready and willing to step up.  It was a good opportunity for all to play and prove that the 2010 team is hungry for success!

We are looking forward to our third tournament of the fall this weekend when we play at UNH against UNH and UMass.  We will play four 25-minute periods - two against each team.  The schedule is below and we hope to see many of you on the sidelines cheering us on.  We had a great fan base this weekend at home and hopefully it will travel to NH this weekend!

Fall 2009 continues to be a great one for the Eagles!

UNH Schedule:
1:00pm - BC v. UMass
1:30pm - BC v. UNH
2:30pm - BC v. UMass
3:00pm - BC v. UNH

WEEKEND IN REVIEW - a bit late!!

Apologies for the delay in giving everyone an update on how our first fall tournament went! We competed at Harvard last Sunday against Harvard, Stanford and BU. It was a great and challenging start to our fall season, and we came out strong in our first game against Harvard. The team played well and showed the speed and athleticism that is going to play a huge part in our success this year. Everyone had an opportunity to play, giving the coaches an excellent opportunity to evaluate on an individual and team basis.

After a nice breakfast-type tailgate and a two hour wait, we took the field again against a tough Stanford squad. Unfortunately, we came out a bit flat and were not ready for the pressure and poise with which the Cardinal played. It wasn't our best showing, but it was a good learning experience for the day and for the year.

As was our goal from the start of the day, we wanted to respond to every mistake and failure with a positive response...and that is just what we did in our third and final game against BU. Determined not to be beat to groundballs or out-hustled, the entire team put forth a great effort.

There are many kinks still to work out on the offensive and defensive ends, as well as, the midfield, but overall it was a great start to the fall season. We thank the parents for their continued support and for feeding us along the way!

We are looking forward to our FIRST-EVER HOME FALL TOURNAMENT in our new stadium THIS SATURDAY against Yale and Vermont! We hope all of you will come cheer us on! Here is the schedule"

1:15PM: BC v. Yale
2:15PM: Yale v. UVM
3:15PM: BC v. UVM

Look forward to seeing you there!!

Weekend in Review!

The Eagles had an eventful weekend this past Saturday participating in the Red Bandanna 5K run, the Friends of Jaclyn Clinic and the Alumnae game! It certainly was a great weekend.

5K Red Bandanna Run

The day started out with a 5K-benefit run in honor of Welles Remy Crowther, who was a ’99 Boston College graduate and member of the BC men's varsity lacrosse team. Unfortunately, Welles lost his life in 9/11 - he was an equity trader in the South Tower. Welles used the last hour of his life to save the lives of others using a red bandanna to cover his nose and mouth as protection against smoke and debris. However, when the towers collapsed Welles did not make it out. The Welles Remy Crowther Charitable Trust was established by the Crowther family to honor and keep their son's memory alive through good works benefiting young people. The Trust supports other not for profit organizations that benefit young people through annual gifts and special awards. We were honored and excited to be part of such a special event! We’d like to say a very special THANK YOU to the Crowther Family, who came out later that day to support our team during the Alumnae game.

FOJ Clinic
The day continued with the Friends of Jaclyn Clinic.
We had a great turnout of girls ranging from youth players all the way to high school level. We were so thrilled to have our adopted teammate, Judith, come out for the day to play lacrosse. Judith was joined by her parents and brother, Larry.

Denis Murphy, who founded FOJ and is the father of Jaclyn, was able to come out to the clinic, as well.
We were thrilled and honored to have him come and we hope to have many more clinics benefiting such a special cause.

Alumnae Game & Reception
The day wrapped up with a very fun game against the Alumnae.
We welcomed back Alums from 1983-2009! Julie Olivier ’83, Liz Ann Backe Barone ‘ 83, Jaime Baldante McCarthy ’00, Shauna Culhane ’08,
Katie DeBlois ’09, Lauren Fitzpatrick ’09, Maura Mahoney ’09, Margot Spatola ’09 dusted off the cleats and joined us in the fun! We mixed up the teams and played two halves. The Alum team walked away with a win after, Judith Theriault, scored the game winner! Looks like Judith took away some great pointers after the FOJ clinic!

A big THANK YOU goes out to Jaime McCarthy and Maura Mahoney for helping to organize the game, as well as, the reception following the game at Union Street in Newton Centre. We are thrilled that this game has become a tradition and we hope to continue it for years to come!

The first two weeks are in the books! WOW, did the team come back in shape or what?! VERY impressive showing in the run tests - best ever! We have had two practices and both have gone well - lots of new faces and plenty to work on but we are heading in the right direction. Will be a fun weekend with the 5k Red Bandanna Run, the FOJ Clinic, and the Alumnae Game & Reception!

We hope to see many of you cheering us on at Harvard on October 4th at our first fall scrimmage weekend!

Keep up the GREAT work 2010 Team!!!!!

Summer Update: Senior Sue Cannon!

Hey Everyone!!

Greeting from the Dirtyyyy Jerz! Hope everyone has had a spectacular summer. I cannot believe that it has almost come to an end. I have had a great summer just bumming it around Orkney and working in a good ‘ol restaurant. Let me tell you….I am not cut out for the restaurant business. This will be my last summer working as a waitress, if all goes as planned next year! I don’t know if you have heard the story about how I spilled a half a cup of water on a perfectly friendly couple and they insisted that their meal be on the house…hah! Or how about when I failed the serving test at Charleys?? Or when the chef was screaming at me for not getting food out on time (he kept yelling, “Don’t you have a college education???!!!??”) I can honestly say It helps you get pretty tough, which isn’t always a bad thing!

Anywho, I have taken a break from working/life this past week and retired to my couch at home. This is the life. I forgot how amazing life is when you have air conditioning, a huge tv, a comfy clean sofa, and warm delicious meals served to you. Ohhh the life! And even better…I am leaving for vacation tomorrow for Seattle. Going to the west coast to visit my brother and his soon to be wife!! Some hiking, fishing, and water skiing…I cannot wait!

Next exciting thing coming up after vacation is BC!! I cannot wait to get started and meet all the new faces on the team. It is going to be such a fun year and I have a feeling we are going to be pretty good too :) I have also been reading this summer, getting ready for senior year I took Bowen’s advice and read a very interesting book about rowing…shout out to Mary’s freshman year! I’ll leave you guys with a few fun and motivational quotes I got from the book…

“Edges form outlines. If our boundaries determine our identities, then we learn who we are by finding our limits.”

“If there is no fear, we don’t have enough at stake. Gamble more than you can afford to lose, and you might win.”

“We don’t need perfect circumstances; we can thrive in any sort of weather. Nichi niche kore ko niche: every day is a beautiful day.”

Alrighty I am off to go pack for my trip cross country but I CANT wait to see you all soon. Much lovee!!

Summer Update: Junior Jill Rekart

What up what up!!!!  From those I've talked to it seems like everyone has been having one fun summer, I know I am.  I have just been hanging out enjoying the awesomeness of being 21.  Unfortunately I haven't seen any of you guys (besides sami and where else than a lax tourney) this summer but I am pumped to see you guys in a month.

I started off my summer by taking a good ol summer class for the month of June (woot woot anatomy 2).  I have been coaching summer lacrosse and absolutely LOVE it.  The girls I coach are a riot and make it so much fun.  I started a few weeks ago mothers helpering/nannying for a 3 year old and two 6 week old twin baby girls.  I hope there is room on the team for 3 more because these girls are the cutest things ever and I might steal them by the end of the summer.

Other then that I have just been hanging out with my friends from home and making sure to make the best of the summer.  Hope everyone has a bomb last month! Miss you guys and can't wait to see you all soon.

CAN'T WAIT TO TEAR UP THE OCEAN CITY LACROSSE FIELDS WITH SOME OF YOU IN A WEEK AND A HALF IT IS GOING TO BE SOOOOOOOOO MUCH FUNNNNNNNN

Summer Update: Senior Lauren Costello!

Helllo alll!

Hope everyone’s summer is going great… we’ve been having a lot of fun at the ork. Mostly working like a slave at Charley’s, working out and hanging out. Can’t get over that it is already mid July… upsetting. Hope everyone had a great 4th! Mine unfortunately was uneventful as I was stuck at Charley’s for the day. On a more fun note, just got back from a very exhausting but extremely fun weekend roadtrip with Mary, Maura, Mon and Luls. We drove all over the country putting nearly 1,000 miles on Mary’s hot ride (literally HOT, has no AC) that mon nicknamed the Marlin. Our first stop was the ‘Cuse to celebrate Deblois’ birthday. Next we went down to strong island to celebrate queen B’s 21st (and got to see Jamo.. great bonus to the trip) .

We have also been getting into yoga to avoid stretch club in the fall. We’re not that great as Sue Mary and I are usually the ones falling over and/or out of every pose. But we found out a secret talent of Caroline’s… she is an undercover human pretzel. We did a class with her at the plex and she was in the bind the entire time (google it).. extremely impressive!

I heard camp was fun, freshmen I am the one that stopped by in my sexy business outfit (I am actually on the team not just the director of operations I swear). It was so good to see everyone even though it was only for a short time… made me realize how much I miss everyone!! Other than that my summer has been a lot of fun! Freshmen I’m so pumped to meet you all in September! Get excited… going to be such a fun year! Hope everyone is loving summer and can’t wait to see everyone in Sept!

love you allll,
Cos

Summer Update! Sophomore Ginny!

Yooo

I hope everyone is having a riot so far this summer... I know I am! I'm the worst at going on facebook/checking up on the blog at home when I'm not around my computer constantly, so I've absolutely loved catching up and reading through it all. I miss you guys like crazy but it seems like everyone is just having a total blast and I couldn't be happier to hear that!! For the past three weeks, actually, I've been coaching an insane amount at my old high school and Northwestern. It's been awesome... kinda reminds me of waking up for good old stretch club at 5:45 in the morning again (I'm due at 6 in the AM Mon-Fri ahhhh)!!! Wish I was walking out the door with all of you guys though :( For the most part, I've just been soaking up the rays at my friends pools/the beach/lake houses. My friend just bought some ridiculous "get tan faster and make it last longer" lotion and I immediately thought of Jamo's serious lotion (hahahah love yaaa). All in all, my summer has consisted of just hanging out with my best friends and family again (being in "pure heaven"- nico, do you say it now??), babysitting, coaching, just straight up "BWALLIN OUT" in the chi (i'm so long island) and staying active with that glorious workout packet! Welp, my sister just knocked out all of her teeth and I gotta go try to make her feel better... CAN'T WAIT TO SEE A BUNCH OF YOU SOON!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love,
Gin

ALI MEAGHER- CAPS OFF HER HS CAREER WITH A STATE TITLE!!!!

Summer Update! Junior Jamo!

Jamo here, from the 2-0-1

Why hello everyone, this is Jamo checking in from the dirt jerz! Nothing really exciting going on in my life besides your typical Chris McComb workout : ), eating, sleeping, and hanging out with my family and friends. I miss all you guys so much but don’t you worry me and Liz tend to see each other everyday. So we have plenty of time to reminisce on all the good stuff, so I have forgotten anyone quite yet.  Obviously I have been trying to work on the tan, but jeez this weather isn’t helping too much. Actually my sisters new motto is: "If you cant tone it, tan it." But we will be having the best of both worlds with our fabulous workouts and the sun in the following months I hope !!!! June 20th I head off  to the West Hampton for the rest of the break which will be a nice get away!!

My new thing this summer has been learning how to cook from my mom.  So far we have made any and every kind of chicken you can imagine, turkey chili, oreo cake and next week were going to make our own pizza!! And I mean homemade, not dominos, I can’t imagine anyone really likes that stuff anyway……mhmmm ya. Well maybe we can find something new to bring to tailgates next fall/spring!

And oh ya!! Welcome freshman I got to see a few familiar faces at the National tournament which was great. Stalked a few of you girls playing your games, looking pretty good If I do say so myself! Well that’s about it, everyone I have talked to is working hard and having a fun summer so far, so that’s great to hear!! Miss you all and see a bunch of you soon I hope!

Love Jamo

Summer Update! Senior Peyton Killeen!

HELLOOOOOO!!!
I hope everyone’s summer is going well. I have been relaxing at home at the beach and avoiding traffic. My mother has also enjoyed having me and my sister home mostly because she has had a list of chores for us to do everyday haha! I went to my older sister’s graduation, which made me depressed because it really sunk in that I have one year left of college.which means I have high hopes for this season!! WOOHOO! I’m anxiously awaiting the workout packet as I know everyone else is! I have been in contact with my group Hannah, Sophia, Caroline(Barclay) and Brittany. We are all working on our tans, so wish us luck. On another note, if any of you want to come down to the beach and enjoy a weekend of sun and lax we are getting together a team for the Ocean City Classic Tournament...COME ONE COME ALL! I know everyone is really excited about this upcoming year, its going to be awesome! Especially incoming freshman I can’t stress how excited everyone on the team is to have you! Enjoy your summer, work hard and keep in touch!
