The Eagles had an eventful weekend this past Saturday participating in the Red Bandanna 5K run, the Friends of Jaclyn Clinic and the Alumnae game! It certainly was a great weekend.
5K Red Bandanna Run
The day started out with a 5K-benefit run in honor of Welles Remy Crowther, who was a ’99 Boston College graduate and member of the BC men's varsity lacrosse team. Unfortunately, Welles lost his life in 9/11 - he was an equity trader in the South Tower. Welles used the last hour of his life to save the lives of others using a red bandanna to cover his nose and mouth as protection against smoke and debris. However, when the towers collapsed Welles did not make it out. The Welles Remy Crowther Charitable Trust was established by the Crowther family to honor and keep their son's memory alive through good works benefiting young people. The Trust supports other not for profit organizations that benefit young people through annual gifts and special awards. We were honored and excited to be part of such a special event! We’d like to say a very special THANK YOU to the Crowther Family, who came out later that day to support our team during the Alumnae game.
FOJ Clinic
The day continued with the Friends of Jaclyn Clinic. We had a great turnout of girls ranging from youth players all the way to high school level. We were so thrilled to have our adopted teammate, Judith, come out for the day to play lacrosse. Judith was joined by her parents and brother, Larry.
Denis Murphy, who founded FOJ and is the father of Jaclyn, was able to come out to the clinic, as well. We were thrilled and honored to have him come and we hope to have many more clinics benefiting such a special cause.
Alumnae Game & Reception
The day wrapped up with a very fun game against the Alumnae. We welcomed back Alums from 1983-2009! Julie Olivier ’83, Liz Ann Backe Barone ‘ 83, Jaime Baldante McCarthy ’00, Shauna Culhane ’08, Katie DeBlois ’09, Lauren Fitzpatrick ’09, Maura Mahoney ’09, Margot Spatola ’09 dusted off the cleats and joined us in the fun! We mixed up the teams and played two halves. The Alum team walked away with a win after, Judith Theriault, scored the game winner! Looks like Judith took away some great pointers after the FOJ clinic!
