SPRING BREAK & MORE in REVIEW

Spring Break 2009 came to an end last weekend, and the Eagles left Florida with one win and one loss, but quickly got back on the winning track to land a 5-1 record heading into ACC play!  There is no question the 2009 team is coming together well, working hard, having fun, and believing in what they are capable of achieving!

Our adventures in West Palm Beach, FL included a great win over Lehigh, a difficult loss to Fairfield, fun times at spring training, autographs from famous professional baseball players, shopping at City Place, excellent dinners, an ice cream treat enjoyed by all thanks to the Cannon Family, and a wonderful dinner hosted by the Donovan Family!  It was a great five days - including the pool workout Beth put everyone through...well, not the coaching staff

After a reasonably easy flight home, the Eagles quickly turned around and headed south to New Rochelle, NY, taking on Iona last Saturday.  Determined to get back to doing what this 2009 team does best, BC earned its 4th win of the year in dominating fashion!  Senior Katie Monaghan was a force in the cage, while 11 different Eagles found the back of the net, including a highlight reel goal by senior Maura Mahoney off a great feed from junior Lauren Costello!

The 19-8 win over Iona got BC back on the winning track, and the Eagles continued on that path today as they took on the Brown Bears.  Today marked the first home game and the first lacrosse game played on the brand new state-of-the-art turf field!  We are very lucky with our gorgeous new stadium, and what a way to christen it with a big 13-5 win over Brown!  Seniors Margot SpatolaEmily Hannigan, and Katie Monaghan along with junior Blair Clancy and freshmen Liz Donovan and Katherine Caufield anchored a defensive unit that took a huge step in the right direction and clamped down on an athletic Brown team!  With a midfield core of Kristin Igoe, Jill Rekart, Sam Taylor, Lauren Fitzpatrick, Hannah Alley, and Kate Collins, that did an excellent job on both ends of the field, as well as a patient and poised offense, the Eagles found themselves right where they needed to be to go 5-1 on the season!

Today's game was also a special one as we celebrated the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation and honored our very special teammate, Judith Theriault!  Judith and her family were in attendance at the game, and we gave her a special gift before the game began.  She has been an inspiration to all of us as she has courageously battled a brain tumor and shown all of us how to truly love life!  We are very lucky to have her as part of our family!

And, now, it is time to head south again to Blacksburg, VA to take on the Hokies of VA Tech!  ACC play begins this weekend as the Eagles take on the Hokies at noon on Saturday.  It will be a great game and one we are all looking forward to!

Thanks to everyone for your support - it's been a great season thus far!
