BC v Notre Dame Football Weekend

The juniors and seniors headed to South Bend, IN to catch the BC v ND football game a few weekends ago. Although, the Eagles lost, it sounds like these upperclassmen had a great time!

"So we land in Chicago late Friday night to be picked up by a limo!!! And Mr. Alley to take us to Hannah’s beautiful house just outside of Chicago. Hannah’s house was gorgeous, and the Alley’s could not have been more hospitable, giving each of us a bed, a nice wake up call in the morning and bagels before we left their house early Saturday morning to catch the shuttle to go down to South Bend. We arrived in South Bend early Saturday morning and got to explore the beautiful campus and see touchdown Jesus as we made our way to the BC tailgate with all the RVs. Although it was rainy, freezing, and BC ended up losing, all of that didn’t seem to matter. The lacrosse team at Notre Dame was nice enough to take us in and make us feel at home in their off campus house. Sunday morning we woke up bright and early to do some more exploring before we headed back to explore Chicago. We got the chance to see ND’s beautiful chapel, the grotto and hang out and get breakfast in their student center. Also, we were able to sneak in an open gate to the stadium and walk on the grass- a cool experience. Never having been to Chicago before, it was awesome to get some deep dish pizza and hang out around Millennium Park for the day before catching out flight back late Sunday night. Overall the weekend was a lot of fun and I was so glad so many of us were able to make the trip out there. "

BROWN Scrimmage & Fall Season in Review

The 2009 fall season has come to an end, and the Eagles finished it up with a strong performance at Brown on Saturday - Halloween! After a slow start and getting used to Brown's high pressure defense, the team settled down and played with poise in the second half. The transition game looked especially good and our conditioning and overall speed are certainly starting to prove worthwhile. Saturday was a great opportunity to see what a real game would feel like, as this was our last dry-run before our first game on February 20th! We also played an additional 25 minutes and 3 6-minute situational periods at the end. It was an opportunity for everyone to play, for the team to exhibit all that has been a focal point this fall, and to work on key aspects of the game.

Overall, the fall season was a huge success. The coaching staff is thrilled with where the team is right now and is very confident about what the spring season has in store. Without a doubt the team will continue its hard-working ways, and there is little question about whether or not it will return to campus in January ready to go! The 26 women of the 2010 squad have proven they are ready and willing to step up to any challenge they face, and with that attitude coupled with the talent on the team, the spring season should be one to remember!

Thanks to all of you who have supported the team through this fall season, and to all the parents for keeping us well fed! With two months to go before spring practices begin, the team will be focused on getting healthy, getting in peak condition, and getting ready to perform! We hope many of you will be on the sidelines to cheer us on this spring.

Our spring schedule can be found under the "spring schedule link" on the right-hand side of the blog.

Here's to a great 2010!

UNH TOURNAMENT in REVIEW

Our third fall tournament is behind us, and we took another step in the right direction last weekend! Focusing on a couple key points offensively, defensively, and in the midfield, it all began to come together in our final two scrimmages of the day.

We opened the day with a 25 minute game against UMass - always a scrappy & tough team. We held our own and certainly were looking for new opportunities offensively. It was great to see, and the shots will start to fall! Another 25 minutes against UNH enabled us to work on a few more aspects. It wasn't as smooth a game as we all would have liked, but the response to the game and the subsequent play proved the team is ready and wiling to get better every time out.

The final two 25-minute games against UMass and UNH (both for a 2nd time) were much improved, particularly the final game with UNH where the defense came together, the offensive was finding one another, and the transition game was flowing. It is from here we look to improve in our final two weeks of practice.

Our 4th and final tournament is in two weeks at Brown. We will play Brown in a full game to start and then add one extra period and a couple extra situations. It should be a great way to end the fall season...all on HALLOWEEN!!!

Brown game begins at 9:00am - hope to see you all there!!

BC FALL TOURNAMENT - A SUCCESS!!!

We held our first-ever fall tournament on our beautiful stadium field on the Newton Campus this weekend.  For all of you alumnae out there, let us know if we are wrong in thinking this may have been our FIRST-EVER fall tournament on campus!!  It was a great day on Saturday with Yale and Vermont joining us for the play-day.

We came out ready to play in our first game against Yale, and proved that we have the speed, endurance, and talent to be quite a force!  It was a great start to the day, and we definitely took another step in the right direction.  The defense was stingy and our offense was moving the ball nicely.  It was an overall solid effort!

After an hour break, when Yale and Vermont played one another, we took to the field again against UVM.  A familiar foe and another game where we improved on the things that mattered most.  Running a number of different people in and out of the game to give everyone an opportunity and to see who is ready and willing to step up.  It was a good opportunity for all to play and prove that the 2010 team is hungry for success!

We are looking forward to our third tournament of the fall this weekend when we play at UNH against UNH and UMass.  We will play four 25-minute periods - two against each team.  The schedule is below and we hope to see many of you on the sidelines cheering us on.  We had a great fan base this weekend at home and hopefully it will travel to NH this weekend!

Fall 2009 continues to be a great one for the Eagles!

UNH Schedule:
1:00pm - BC v. UMass
1:30pm - BC v. UNH
2:30pm - BC v. UMass
3:00pm - BC v. UNH

WEEKEND IN REVIEW - a bit late!!

Apologies for the delay in giving everyone an update on how our first fall tournament went! We competed at Harvard last Sunday against Harvard, Stanford and BU. It was a great and challenging start to our fall season, and we came out strong in our first game against Harvard. The team played well and showed the speed and athleticism that is going to play a huge part in our success this year. Everyone had an opportunity to play, giving the coaches an excellent opportunity to evaluate on an individual and team basis.

After a nice breakfast-type tailgate and a two hour wait, we took the field again against a tough Stanford squad. Unfortunately, we came out a bit flat and were not ready for the pressure and poise with which the Cardinal played. It wasn't our best showing, but it was a good learning experience for the day and for the year.

As was our goal from the start of the day, we wanted to respond to every mistake and failure with a positive response...and that is just what we did in our third and final game against BU. Determined not to be beat to groundballs or out-hustled, the entire team put forth a great effort.

There are many kinks still to work out on the offensive and defensive ends, as well as, the midfield, but overall it was a great start to the fall season. We thank the parents for their continued support and for feeding us along the way!

We are looking forward to our FIRST-EVER HOME FALL TOURNAMENT in our new stadium THIS SATURDAY against Yale and Vermont! We hope all of you will come cheer us on! Here is the schedule"

1:15PM: BC v. Yale
2:15PM: Yale v. UVM
3:15PM: BC v. UVM

Look forward to seeing you there!!
